EFSC Testifies Before House Panel on ESIGN

Jeremiah S. Buckley, General Counsel to the Electronic Financial Services Council, testified at a hearing of the House Financial Services Subcommittee on Domestic Monetary Policy, Technology and Economic Growth on June 28, 2001. The hearing was entitled "ESIGN--Encouraging the Use of Electronic Signatures in the Financial Services Industry." The hearing reviewed the joint report by the Federal Trade Commission and the Department of Commerce on the consumer consent provisions of the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act (ESIGN), Public Law 106-229. The focus of the hearing was on the operation of ESIGN and the consumer consent provisions on the financial services industry. According to Subcommittee Chairman Peter King (R-NY), Thursday's hearing was "the first of many hearings this Subcommittee will hold specific to high-tech financial services." |
